Well, it's officially spring. The nights are no longer getting close to freezing, probably safe to put distilled water in the bikes again. I'm anticipating dewinterizing the race bike this or next weekend. Things to do on it:
- fix the broken home made ignition switch
- remove the radiator fan
- fix the slightly bent spare rear rim to make it ready for rain tires
- new oil
- check brake pads, new brake fluid
Last couple of weeks I've been busy with my old EX500 race bike, which I'm planning on keeping as a street/track bike. Probably won't race it again, but with the roads we have here, I want to keep the nice suspension and geometry. I just closed up the motor after doing a ring job. This is the engine that lost compression on me in California. Hopefully it'll be okay. If not, I'll either cannibalize the engine from the other (stock) EX or fix up the parts motor that needs a new stator. Last night I did put the first choice motor in the frame. Now it's all set to get hooked up and hopefully broken in. Here's the beast in its current condition:
